URGENT.

My website works when I put www. before the url but when I put the domain
name as I purchased it (without www.) it comes up with a gandi holding page.

The site should not be showing a holding page/advert for gandi.

The site is built and can be seen in its entirety when www. is put in front
of the url. I don't understand why the site without www. does not work
properly.

I've sent an email. I would phone if I had a number. PLEASE resolve this as
soon as humanly possible.

You need to add a record to your DNS zone to map www to the address. Take a
look at the example zone files.
