Hi I have an account with FreeDNS at freedns.afraid.org, and that has been working quite fine for my domain. When I use ns[1-4].afraid.org as my nameservers in your console, my subdomains like mail.singh.im, etc redirect just fine to Google hosted apps for my domain. But when I use Gandi's nameservers for the same subdomains, with exact same configuration, my subdomains stop working. I have waited hours, even overnight for the subdomain mail.singh.im to work, but it never did. When I switched the nameservers back to afraid.org's, it all went back to normal withing half an hour. Here are screenshots of my configuration from FreeDNS and Gandi's DNS: FreeDNS: twitpic.com/8f378r/full Gandi DNS: http://twitpic.com/8f36wg/full
DNS: Gandi's DNS servers now working for CNAME (subdomain) records

I meant *not working for CNAME....* in the subject.

Hello It is "normal" that this configuration doesn't work as intended. For CNAME and MX records, when the value does not ends with a dot, the name is considered relative to your domain name. So: @ MX 10 aspmx.l.google.com Is actually translated to aspmx.l.google.com.yourdomain.net You'll simply need to add a dot to all your CNAME and MX for it to work, like this: @ MX 10 aspmx.l.google.com. This is the general convention when dealing with DNS record values, I'm surprised that freedns works this way.

If you look at my domain's Zone file “Default Gandi zone file 1”, version 4, you can see that I did try the records ending with a dot. And perhaps I didn't wait long enough for that zone file to take effect before I created and used version 5 without the ending dots. I have now modified all the MX and CNAME records to end with a dot. Typically how long should I wait before these DNS changes can take effect? Do I need to add the ending dot to the A records too?

FreeDNS does not allow editing a plain-text file as you guys do. So probably they do append the ending dot in their records, but just don't show it in the UI.

Adding those trailing dots worked pretty smoothly. All subdomains working, and all mail being redirected propery to my Google apps account. Thanks,
Do I need to add the ending dot to the A records too?
