Hostname, but no domainname

I have a semi-working Debian 4 VPS with Gandi.net. I've tried every way
I know how to set the domainname and make it stick, but whenever I
reboot the server, I'm back to hostname returning the hostname (fs01),
and hostname -d returning nothing. Where can I set the domainname so
that it sticks between reboots? I've never had this problem on any other
VPS accounts I've had.

Bonjour,

j'aimerai sécuriser le réseau de ma machine gandi

mais il n'y a qu'une seule interface sur le systeme (eth0) qui
correspond a l'interface public et il n'y a pas d'interface privée.

Ne serait-il pas possible de faire en sorte que les machines aient 2
interfaces réseaux ? 

comment faire avec iptables pour filtrer et fermer des ports sur
l'exterieur ?

j'ai tenté de faire des règles iptables mais sans succés, la machine
est totalement inaccessible de l'exterieur. D'ailleurs, merci la console
pour restaurer le tout :)

iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -o lo -j ACCEPT

# Nous considérons que notre réseau local est

Hi,
I use fetchmail on a debian/etch and debian/lenny box to download my
domain at gandi. It has happened now for the third time, that there is a
mail in my inbox, that I can not download. They are all legitimate mails
from a mailing list (debian, r-project), they are not extraordinarily
big (20kb), but if I try to download them, fetchmail (etch and lenny
versions) fails with:

Other mails download fine, however when this mail is still unread in the
queue, no mail is downloaded at all due to this error. If I do not read
this mail via the web interface, I can not download any further mail
with fetchmail. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Are the emails
in an "illegal" format, is there a bug in fetchmail, or is this a bug
with the gandi imap server?

Why not dynamic DNS?

The Gandi FAQ states very simply that Gandi does not and will not
support dynamic DNS.

Dynamic DNS is a useful service (especially for those of us behind a
retail DSL connection). Personally I use it to access the ssh server
running on my internal network. From my perspective it would appear to
be a service similar to others that Gandi does provide, such as email
and web redirection or generic DNS management.

Of course we could create an account with dyndns.com and add their
nameserver to the Gandi DNS records.  But since we are already paying
for our service with Gandi, and since Gandi is already handling all out
other domain and DNS business, it would seem to make sense that it also
handle dynamic DNS, so that everything is managed from the one place.

Is it possible to ask Gandi to explain why it does not support dynamic
DNS?

Hi there,
I'm trying to update a rubygems cache from http://gems.rubyforge.org
which typically takes about 10-20 seconds on other servers of mine. But
for some reason when I do it on my (1 share) host it hangs forever
before timing out after about an hour.

Anyone know what might be causing that?

Je suis pocesseur d'un serveur dédié (dedibox), et souhaite offrir à
ses utilisateurs la possibilité de configurer leurs domaines facilement
via des DNS du type : ns1.organi-web.info

Tout est bien configuré, sauf au niveau des mails
Lorsque que j'essais de configurer d'autres mails comme ça, les mails
ne fonctionnent plus (organi-web.com)

en retour aux mails envoyés, je reçois :

Due to a configuration error on our part (human error), we started a
chain reaction with a serious routing bug on our network equipment. This
led to the system being ground to a halt, which is why our services were
unavailable for one quarter of the service providers.

"Expert version":

The involuntary passage of Cisco's switching software led to half of the
CEF routes being rendered unavailable, despite an immediate return to
the original configuration.

We offer our most sincere apologies for this incident, which does not
resemble us at all. Of course, we will grant a refund of one hosting day
for customers that feel wronged (which is the reason this will be
granted upon request by the way), and will take all the necessary
actions to assure that this incident will just remain a bad memory.

Ive been experiencing often packet loss/network crashes at my server
(217.70.188.137/desu), anybody else having this issue or is it with
gandi? I also tend to get disconnected for few minutes sometimes by the
server (stops responding).

Bonjour,

Depuis la panne de hier soir mon serveur ne donne plus de réponses (Pas
de ping, pas de ssh, plus rien du tout).
Je l'ai redémarré via l'interface Gandi et toujours pas de réponse
(Malgré un statut OK).
Quelqu'un d'autre à eu ce problème? J'ai envoyé un ticket au support
mais je crains que cela risque de prendre du temps.

90 minutes and still no server

Over 90 minutes ago, I received my "Share addition successful" message
for a new server, Debian 4 in expert mode.  The status page shows my
server is running, but the server overview still says "Order in
progress".  I am unable to log in via ssh.

How long does this take to set-up?
